Justice, peace and security

The African continent has faced and continues to face a number of conflicts and other situations that are a threat to peace and security with impacts on sustainable development. Studies of the historical pasts show diversity of IKS-based approaches were used across the continent, to manage and mitigate against conflicts. The Institute in collaboration with IK holders and practitioners, across African cultures and countries, will advance studies and human capital development, to enhance knowledge and scholarship on the use of IKS-based strategies to conflict transformation and peace-building. Examples will be drawn from countries like Rwanda where home-grown philosophies have been successfully applied to dispense justice as well as restore and maintain peace and security in a post conflict era
